The Hidden Pearl Of The Mediterranean

The Maltese archipelago lies virtually at the center of the Mediterranean, 93 km south of Sicily and 288 km north of Africa.  The archipelago consists of three Islands: Malta, Gozo and Comino with a total population of over 400,000 inhabitants occupying an area of 316 square kilometers. Malta is the largest island and the cultural, commercial and administrative center. Gozo is the second largest island and is more rural, characterized by fishing, tourism, crafts and agriculture. Comino, the smallest of the trio, has one hotel, is largely uninhabited, and is a paradise for snorkelers and windsurfers.

Your Malta vacation will feature an astonishing array of discoveries. Scenery and architecture are mixing colors against the Mediterranean deep blues. Malta has been described as one big open-air museum, featuring sites from prehistory, from the footsteps of St. Paul or  from the Knights of St. John battles. With almost year-round sun, you can indulge in outdoor living at its best.

Practice a new sport, laze on an island cruise and tour the most important historic sites, and you will still have time to join in the nightlife. That's the real advantage of a stay here. There is enough on offer to satisfy the returning enthusiast as well as the casual first-timer. Malta has wellness and spa facilities in luxury hotels or club resorts, and activities range from rock-climbing to gentle rambling.

Valletta, Malta

VALLETTA The Fortress City, Citta' Umilissima, "a city built by gentlemen for gentlemen" is Malta's capital: a living, working city,  administrative and commercial heart of the Islands. Valletta is named after its founder, the respected Grand Master of the Order of St. John, Jean Parisot de la Valette. The magnificent fortress , rises steeply from two deep harbours, Marsamxett and Grand Harbour. Started in 1566, Valletta was completed, with  impressive bastions, forts and cathedral, in the astonishingly short time of 15 years, remarkable, considering the fact that  the whole city was built entirely by hand. The best way to enjoy La Valetta is by foot.

Ta Pinu Sanctuary in Gozo

GOZO Charming Gozo is known to provide a tranquil haven for relax. The personality of Malta's sister Island is immediately apparent; it's greener, more rural and smaller, with life's rhythms dictated by the seasons, fishing and agriculture. Gozo is thought to be the legendary Calypso's isle of Homer's Odyssey - a peaceful, mystical backwater. Baroque churches and old stone farmhouses dot the countryside.  Rugged landscape and spectacular coastline await exploration with some of the Mediterranean's best dive sites. Gozo also offers a nightlife, a cultural calendar, and some great dining out.
