Villa antica

Exterior Description (300,000 m2/3,229,173 ft2)
Enter the estate of this historic 14th century villa via a private gate and find yourself in a garden filled with cypress, pine, and oak trees. The historical significance of the estate is underlined by the fact that it was occupied during the month of July 1944 by German forces and used as a command post, and subsequently liberated by allied forces as the front passed through the region. Several underground WWII hideouts are still visible in the nature reserve woods of the estate. On the estate is a large shared swimming pool, open from early May to early October, (16m x 6m, 0.8-2m deep) surrounded by terra cotta decking, while over 35 lemon trees release refreshing scents into the air. From the garden, you'll look towards the medieval town of San Gimignano. Although the estate is shared, you have a private 100 m2 yard with garden furniture, Al Fresco dining table with umbrella and a gas barbeque. You will also have a 60 m2 courtyard with lemon trees and a covered terrace overlooking vineyards and the valley. One third of the remaining land is a nature reserve—a wooded area inhabited by wild pheasants, rabbits, boar, and hedgehogs. Another part of the estate is used for olive tree cultivation, and there is also a resident horse that enjoys free grazing around an ancient Roman fresh water spring. Private parking is available within the property grounds.

Villa valeria

Exterior Description
The home comprises the ground level of a newly renovated canteen, originally constructed in 1939 by the grandmother of the current owner of the estate. The building was used for wine production for only a few years until the breakout of WWII at which time it served as a safe hiding place for those desperately attempting to avoid capture by the Nazi forces. The main villa of the property lived in by the owner of the estate and his family was occupied by the Nazi Officials and used as their base for this area of Tuscany in July of 1944. The owner’s family escaped by foot, walking for more than two weeks to the property of a relative near San Gimignano. There is a hand dug WWII hideout in the hillside next to Villa Valeria, as well as two other hideouts in the 25 acre nature reserve comprised in the estate property. The home is identical in floor plan and amenities to the Villa Cantina, as this structure contains both rental properties, each completely independent from the other and occupying separate levels of the two story building.
The home is reached from the parking area just a few yards from the private front yard. Six steps lead to the covered porch where a terra cotta bust of the Roman Emperor Caracalla overlooks the outdoor dining area furnished with table and chairs. This loggia provides the entrance to the home from its arched double door glass entrance door.
Due to the unique construction of the building, Villa Cantina is the coolest of the properties on the estate in the warm summer months of Tuscany. The underground level below the home still houses enormous wine vats and a large hand dug underground canteen (25m l x 7m w x 5m h) which was used to store the wines produced.
